Here are six used books I purchased from AbeBooks this spring:
Dusty Answer by Rosamond Lehmann
I adore Rosamond Lehmann’s writing and was very happy to get this lovely Virago edition of her first novel.
Madame, Will You Talk? by Mary Stewart
This may not be the most attractive book, but I can’t wait to lose myself in Mary Stewart’s suspenseful tale of murder in Provence. This is one of my #20booksofsummer reads.
The Heat of the Day by Elizabeth Bowen
I’ve been meaning to pick up an Elizabeth Bowen novel for a while now. The setting of The Heat of the Day– London during the Blitz- was especially appealing to me.
Westwood by Stella Gibbons
I’ve loved both of the Stella Gibbons novels that I’ve read so far, and want to continue working my way through her oeuvre. This one is also set in WWII era London- apparently a bit of a theme this haul. I love this Vintage Classics cover too.
Wartime Britain: 1939-45 by Juliet Gardiner
I told you it was a theme… This massive nonfiction book is a comprehensive account of life on the British home front during WWII. I’ve read the first few chapters and so far am finding it fascinating and incredibly readable. I plan to dip in and out of this one over a long period of time.
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis
Another book on my #20booksofsummer reading list that I am super excited about. I have a feeling I’m going to devour this one.
Have you read any of these?
