How is it almost August?!?! The good news is that it’s time once again for a month-long celebration of all things Austen.
Austen in August is a reading event hosted by Adam at Roof Beam Reader.
The goal is to read (or reread) as many Jane Austen works/spinoffs/biographies as possible throughout the month. 2017 marks the fifth year of this fun event.
I have several Austen related blog posts planned, and have written a guest post that will appear on Roof Beam Reader in the second half of August. Stay tuned!
My Austen in August TBR List:
- Jane Austen at Home, Lucy Worsley
- The Austen Escape, Katherine Reay
- Eligible, Curtis Sittenfeld
I also want to start reading my copy of the Harvard University Press Annotated Mansfield Park, but don’t plan on finishing it in a month. I prefer to dip in and out of these editions since they are packed full of detailed information.
Potential Additional Reads:
- A Jane Austen Education: How Six Novels Taught Me About Love, Friendship, and the Things That Really Matter, William Deresiewicz
- Jane Austen: A Life, Claire Tomalin
- Jane of Austin, Hilary Manton Lodge
I’m not sure I’ll have time to pick any of these up, but you never know.
My Austen in August Rewatch List:
- Emma (2009)- BBC miniseries
- Lost in Austen (2008)- ITV minseries
- Love & Friendship (2016)
- The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (2012)- Youtube series
I’m probably being overly ambitious, but my inner Janeite can’t help it!
Will you be joining in on the Austen in August fun?
I’m a massive Jane Austen fan but have never read any non-fictiony books about her! Look forward to seeing what you think of them. Your TV section is spot on though – the Emma series is my all time fave. Love this!

The Emma miniseries is so good right?! If you’re interested in Jane Austen nonfiction, I did a post recently with some recommendations: https://dwellinpossibilityblog.wordpress.com/2017/07/18/top-ten-tuesday-books-about-jane-austen/
Happy reading!

I didn’t even know that Austen in August was a thing. But I’m going to try to tackle a few on my Austen related TBR . I want to tackle at least a few of the Austen Project Series https://www.facebook.com/austenproject

Love the cover on the Austen at Home book. I’ve never tried an annotated version of any book, but if I did. it would be an Austen.
I actually really like the Gwenyth Paltrow Emma which I know is controversial, but I also prefer the 1980’s BBC P&P rather than the Colin Firth one. I’ve just finished Lady Susan, so plan to watch the movie Love & Friendship now.
Happy Austen in August 🙂

Happy Austen in August to you too! The cover is gorgeous, right?!
I really like the Gwenyth Paltrow Emma too, but I’ve never seen the 1980’s P & P.
I hope you enjoy Love & Friendship-I thought it was really well done and mostly true to the novella from what I could remember.

I read Lizzy and Jane by Katherine Reay a couple of years ago. If you get to The Austen Escape let us know what you think!

I love your Esty page with Janite stuff. I will attempt to read three books this August related to Austen and will, hopefully, put together a post about the world of Jane Austen based on things i have learned form other books. I’d be honored if you would look at my first review: Longbourn
