And the Classics Club Spin #16 pick is….
:::drumroll please:::
Number 4!
Which means I need to read 1984 by George Orwell before December 31st.
Honestly, this would have been my last choice from my spin list.
I’ve been meaning to read it for ages-and it is certainly more relevant than ever at the moment-but I can’t say that I’m looking forward to picking it up. Oh well, at least this will give me the push to finally read this dystopian classic.
Have you read 1984? If so, please give me a pep talk. If you participated in the #CCSpin which book will you be reading?
I haven’t read it either but it’s on my list too! So the only pep talk I can give is you’ll be glad when it’s done? 🙂 I got Fahrenheit 451! That wouldn’t have been my first choice but also want to see what it’s all about!

I hope you enjoy Fahernheit 451! It’s a great dystopian read, and especially horrifying for us book lovers.

1984 is an amazing novel I read it as a teenager and an adult and wish I was allowed to teach it at school. Certainly very relevant today

It is scarily relevant for sure

I have read 1984 but it was so long ago I can’t remember much about it now. I’ve read a few of George Orwell’s other books recently and enjoyed them, so I’ve been thinking about re-reading this one at some point. I hope you like it!

Huh! Look on the bright side – at least it’s not The Catcher in the Rye… *stomps off huffily* 😉

I’ve actually read 1984 a couple of times. It’s one of my sci-fi classics I like to come back to again and again. And bonus, it’s a short-ish read so it should be totally doable to finish by December 31!! 🙂 I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Elley! I’ll probably like it much more than I was expecting to. And you’re right-it’s thankfully pretty short, especially for a classic!

I was obsessed with 1984 when I was in high school, and I recently reread it to see if it was as good as I thought it was back then. It was, and I picked up on a whole lot of little things that I probably missed in my younger years. Two other books that I think are even more relevant are Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and The Circle by Dave Eggers. I wouldn’t recommend reading any of those back to back, though, like I did, unless you enjoy feeling like the world is doomed.

I’m glad to hear it held up on a reread! I actually read Parable of the Sower earlier this year and loved it. It is crazy relevant. I swear Octavia Butler could see into the future! Have you read the sequel?

I haven’t read the sequel yet because it freaked me out so much, especially after reading The Circle too. It’s on my TBR, though. I’ll probably read it during my Sci-fi Summer challenge.
