The Official 2018 TBR Pile Challenge

As difficult as it is to believe, it’s now time to start thinking about our reading goals for 2018. One of mine is going to be to read more books from my own shelves. That said, I was thrilled to discover Adam at Roof Beam Reader’s challenge announcement.

The Official 2018 TBR Pile Challenge was created with the goal to read 12 books that have been languishing on your shelves for at least a year, within the 12 months of 2018.

Below is my Challenge TBR List complete with 12 books and 2 alternates:

  1. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (2013)
  2. Possession by A. S. Byatt (1990)
  3. The Misinterpretation of Tara Jupp by Eva Rice (2010)
  4. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (2014)
  5. The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James (1881)
  6. Miss Buncle Married by D. E. Stevenson (1936)
  7. The Night Watch by Sarah Waters (2006)
  8. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri (2003)

  1. Stop everything and read The Goldfinch immediately! 🙂 Seriously, Donna Tartt is one of my favorite writers and this book blew me away. The Signature of all Things is great as well, although they’re both chunksters, too. Good luck with your challenge.

  2. What a list! Possession is stunning. And I adore Woolf. I’m seeing Testament of Youth on so many lists… feel like I need to get with the program on that one!

  3. Phew! Some chunky ones there! I haven’t read many of them, but my pick would be Behind the Scenes at the Museum – I enjoyed it a lot when I read it way back when it came out. Have fun! 😀

      1. Oh, somehow I missed #5! THAT IS A GREAT ONE! You might check out a recent release, as well: Mrs. Osmond by John Banville. It’s the sequel — written by a Booker Prize winner. JUST RELEASED! I haven’t read the sequel yet, & usually I don’t go for that (a sequel by a different author.) But this one might be worth it… 😀

  4. Excellent list, Jessie! Sending you the very best wishes on this! (I think you should make #12 your first read of 2018.) 😉

I’m extremely interested in #4, too. I’ve heard the writing is exquisite.

  5. Great list – another Testament of Youth fan here. Possession, The Signature of All Things and The Night Watch are all fab books too. I’ll admit I struggled with The Goldfinch, didn’t like it half as much as The Secret History. Enjoy!
