As difficult as it is to believe, it’s now time to start thinking about our reading goals for 2018. One of mine is going to be to read more books from my own shelves. That said, I was thrilled to discover Adam at Roof Beam Reader’s challenge announcement.
The Official 2018 TBR Pile Challenge was created with the goal to read 12 books that have been languishing on your shelves for at least a year, within the 12 months of 2018.
Below is my Challenge TBR List complete with 12 books and 2 alternates:
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (2013)
- Possession by A. S. Byatt (1990)
- The Misinterpretation of Tara Jupp by Eva Rice (2010)
- All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (2014)
- The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James (1881)
- Miss Buncle Married by D. E. Stevenson (1936)
- The Night Watch by Sarah Waters (2006)
- The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri (2003)
- The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert (2013)
- Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson (1995)
- Night and Day by Virginia Woolf (1919)
- Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain (1933)
Alternates:
- Excellent Women by Barbara Pym (1952)
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (2007)
Will you be joining in #TBR2018RBR?

Stop everything and read The Goldfinch immediately! 🙂 Seriously, Donna Tartt is one of my favorite writers and this book blew me away. The Signature of all Things is great as well, although they’re both chunksters, too. Good luck with your challenge.

Ah, I know! I absolutely adore Donna Tartt, and have been saving TGF since she usually takes ~10 years between books. I will be shocked if I don’t love it.

What a list! Possession is stunning. And I adore Woolf. I’m seeing Testament of Youth on so many lists… feel like I need to get with the program on that one!

Thanks Adam! I’m pretty sure I’m going to love Possession. 2018 does seem like the perfect time to read Testament of Youth, since it will be the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.

Phew! Some chunky ones there! I haven’t read many of them, but my pick would be Behind the Scenes at the Museum – I enjoyed it a lot when I read it way back when it came out. Have fun! 😀

Virginia Woolf’s “Night and Day” has also been on my “to-read shelf” for a couple of years now… I might feel guilty enough to read it now, having seen on your list! 😀

I read the first 50 or so pages a few years ago and was really enjoying it before I put it down for some reason. Hope you enjoy it too if you pick it up soon, but don’t feel guilty!

Oh, somehow I missed #5! THAT IS A GREAT ONE! You might check out a recent release, as well: Mrs. Osmond by John Banville. It’s the sequel — written by a Booker Prize winner. JUST RELEASED! I haven’t read the sequel yet, & usually I don’t go for that (a sequel by a different author.) But this one might be worth it… 😀

The Portrait of a Lady and Testament of Youth are two that I’m really looking forward to. Hopefully I’ll get to them both early on in the year. Mrs. Osmond is on my TBR for sure!

Excellent list, Jessie! Sending you the very best wishes on this! (I think you should make #12 your first read of 2018.) 😉
I’m extremely interested in #4, too. I’ve heard the writing is exquisite.

Great list – another Testament of Youth fan here. Possession, The Signature of All Things and The Night Watch are all fab books too. I’ll admit I struggled with The Goldfinch, didn’t like it half as much as The Secret History. Enjoy!

I’m especially looking forward to Testament of Youth, and I can’t get enough of Sarah Waters. I’ve heard that a lot about The Goldfinch and am anxious to see whether or not I’ll feel the same. Thanks Cathy!
