Thanksgiving Readathon Sign-Up and TBR

This Wednesday kicks off the Thanksgiving Readathon hosted by Ottavia at Novels and Nonfiction and Jackie from Death at Tsundoku. It’s a laid-back readathon with the goal of reading as much as you can from Wednesday, November 22nd through Sunday, November 26th.

It looks like the the cold I’ve been fighting off is finally catching up with me, so I might not feel like doing much besides reading later this week. Hopefully I won’t feel too sick to read, because that is the absolute worst.

Here’s my (tentative) TBR:

 

Doomsday Book, Connie Willis 

Quiet, Susan Caine

Fingersmith, Sarah Waters

Lady Rose and Mrs. Memmary, Ruby Ferguson

Snowdrift and Other Stories, Georgette Heyer

 

My goal is to finish at least 2 books. I need to make some progress on my Nonfiction November reading, and also hope to check off some of the remaining titles on my Fall TBR List. I’m currently craving some comfort reads, so Georgette Heyer and a Persephone Book sound like just the ticket.

  1. The Domsday Book is wonderful Jessie, you will zoom through it! I wouldn’t read the Georgette Heyer all in one go, however – the short stories, although good, all start to seem the same if read too close together.

  3. I’m retired and really don’t do read-a-thons anymore because my life sometimes seems like one big read-a-thon – (15 books a month more or less).

    But I remember Thanksgiving in 2006 when I was working and was going to be alone for the whole holiday weekend. I read one (1) book – Thomas Pynchon’s “Against the Day” was published on the Wednesday right before Thanksgiving and it arrived on my doorstep that evening. I picked it up and started reading – i’d been waiting for it. I read from Wednesday evening through Sunday afternoon sometime and finished it. It’s 1095 difficult (but incredible!) pages. I ate a turkey TV dinner, popcorn,

    This year I might read somewhat less because I cook for my mom and myself – (small and quiet) and I have some friends and neighbors who … well … what-ever. lol –

    The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery – 273 pages – Kindle
    The Gustav Sonata by Rose Tremain – 272 pages – Audible
    The Buried Giant by Ishiguro – 318 pages Audible/Kindle – reread
    maybe a quickie crime novel – or nonfiction –

    1. I love it when a specific book is forever tied to a specific event/holiday in our memories. Thanks for sharing yours. That’s an impressive amount of pages in a few days time! Looks like a great Thanksgiving TBR- enjoy and have a wonderful holiday!

  5. Doomsday Book is so good. I hope you enjoy it. I read Quiet earlier this year and found it very interesting. And Georgette Heyer is always a good idea. If that cold really does catch p with you at least you have a lot of good books. I hope you feel better soon.

    1. Thanks so much Jennifer! I’m still hoping I’ll feel better by Thursday, but if I don’t I’ll just seek solace in these books. It could be worse! I’m already loving Doomsday Book and I completely agree that Heyer is always a good idea-even more so when I’m sick.
