Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My Winter TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme created by The Broke and the Bookish blog.

This week’s topic is: Books On My Winter TBR

Winter is coming and it’s time to start thinking about my winter reading plans. I’ve only read 6/10 books from my Fall TBR, and may still try to get to some of the other four before winter officially begins. I’m including my festive Christmas reads in this list as well, even though I plan to start them before the 21st.

1. 1984 by George Orwell

This is my pick from the Classics Club Spin, and will be my priority next month since I need to read it before the end of the year. I’ll be glad to finally be able to check this dystopian classic off my list!

2. Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak

I’ve been saving this ARC-about an English family forced into quarantine over the Christmas holiday-until December. I think this will be a fun and festive contemporary read.

3. Christmas: A Biography by Judith Flanders

If this book doesn’t get me in the Christmas spirit, then I don’t know what will. Judith Flanders recounts the history behind our holiday traditions in this nonfiction tome.

4. Mansfield Park: An Annotated Edition by Jane Austen

I think winter will be the perfect time to enjoy an Austen reread. I’ve been meaning to dive into this annotated edition of Mansfield Park for a while now, and look forward to savoring it over cozy winter nights.

5. The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James

This is one of the titles on my Classics Club List that I am most excited about tackling. I can’t wait to read about Isabel Archer as I’m curled up with a cup of tea.

 

6. Christmas Pudding by Nancy Mitford

I hope this will be a fun and charming modern classic to read around the holidays. I look forward to reading Nancy Mitford’s take on Christmas!

7. Mariana by Monica Dickens

This Persephone Classic has been at the top of my TBR for a while now, and I’ve been dying to read it. Mariana sounds like just the cheerful, cozy read I need to help beat the Winter blues.

8. Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher

I can’t imagine a more wintry sounding novel than Rosamunde Pilcher’s Winter Solstice. I’m sure I’ll enjoy escaping to a packed country house in Scotland during the season.

9. Possession by A. S. Byatt

Possession is at the top of my 2018 TBR Pile Challenge list, and I think it will make for great winter reading. I’m sure Byatt’s engrossing novel will help while away the long, dark nights ahead.

10. The Butcher’s Hook by Janet Ellis 

This is one of the books I’ve most recently put down, and one that I’d love to pick up again soon. I think this atmospheric historical fiction novel will be perfect to read during these colder months.
