I can’t believe it’s the first Friday in August already. I hope you’re all savoring summer and enjoying some terrific reads!
This weekend, I’m reading two popular novels: Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danier and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.
Keep scrolling for this week’s Book Beginnings and The Friday 56…
Book Beginnings is a bookish meme hosted by Rose City Reader that asks you to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you’re reading, along with your initial thoughts/impressions.
Book Beginnings:
You will develop a palate.
A palate is a spot on your tongue where you remember. Where you assign words to the textures of taste. Eating becomes a discipline, language-obsessed. You will never simply eat food again.
–Sweetbitter, Stephanie Danier
The Friday 56 is a bookish meme hosted by Freda’s Voice that asks you to: Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56 and find a sentence that grabs you.
The Friday 56:
“Really?” Lexie beamed. “Oh my god, Pearl, I’ll owe you forever.” She threw her arms around Pearl. Across the table, Moody gave up on his homework and slammed his math book shut, and in the living room, Mia jammed her paintbrush into a jar of water, lips pursed, paint scrubbing from the bristles in a dirt-colored swirl.
–Little Fires Everywhere, Celeste Ng
Have you read either of these books? What are you planning to read this weekend?
I love that you do these two little memes from books you’re currently reading. It’s so fun to connect with what you’re reading right now! Neither of these are books on my TBR, but I’ve heard wonderful things. I’ll be finishing A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson and starting Dragon Wing for my next book club this weekend.

I haven’t read any of these books, but I love your two memes – especially the page 56! I’ve just started Far from the Madding Crowd, with my book/film group, I bet that’ll have something beautiful to say on page 56!
