Currently Reading:
I’m currently immersed in one of my Christmas books (and one of my most anticipated releases of 2018): The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton. I’m loving it so far, and can’t wait to see how the story unfolds.
I’ve also just begun another historical fiction novel, A Well-Behaved Woman by Therese Anne Fowler. I’ve seen a bit of buzz about this gilded age account of the life of Alva Vanderbilt on social media lately, and was reminded that I still had an ARC of the novel that I need to read and review.
Recently Finished:
My final read of 2018 was Heartburn by Nora Ephron. I really enjoyed this witty little novel, but couldn’t help but wish there was a bit more depth to it. Have any of you seen the film version? I can imagine that it’s even better on the screen.
I’m still digesting Maggie O’Farrell’s impactful memoir I Am I Am I Am after devouring it in two days. It’s beautiful, harrowing, and utterly unforgettable. Without a doubt one of my favorite reads of this past year.
Reading Next:
There are almost too many books calling my name at the moment, so I’m not sure which one(s) I’ll be picking up next. Before I reach for any more of the books I got for Christmas however, I’d like to (finally) read Transcription by Kate Atkinson. It’s been waiting patiently on my shelf since September after all…

Awesome line up of books! I loved I Am I Am I Am! I hope you enjoy Transcription. I thought it was really interesting and enjoyed how real the characters were!

Thank you! I would’ve been very disappointed if I wasn’t enjoying it. I’d highly, highly recommend I Am, I Am, I Am. Maggie O’Farrell is such a brilliant writer and so many of these stories will stay with me for a long time to come.

I have to say that I watched the film of Heartburn and found it really boring haha! I liked the novel because of the main character’s voice and that really doesn’t translate to the film… Hope you like it more!

That’s good to know about the film. It doesn’t seem to get great reviews from what I can tell, so you’re probably not alone! The protagonists “voice” is definitely the highlight of the novel, so that’s a shame it doesn’t carry over to the screen. I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to watch this one!

Jessie, my last read of 2018 was Theatre Royal by Michael Coren, a brief overview of the history of Stratford East’s Theatre Royal. Now, I am reading Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley, Jane Austen at Home by Lucy Worsley and I am re-read Emma by Jane Austen. Happy reading!
