Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme created by The Broke and the Bookish blog.
This week’s topic is: Ten Books I Meant To Read In 2017 But Didn’t Get To (and totallyyyy plan to get to in 2018!!)
Autumn by Ali Smith (I just finished this one)
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (Currently reading)
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
Black Rabbit Hall by Eve Chase
Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher
The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
Mariana by Monica Dickens
Quiet by Susan Caine
What books did you mean to read in 2017?
I just finished Quiet towards the end of 2017 and it was really enjoyable! Definitely recommend it 🙂

I didn’t get to The Hate U Give last year either. It wasn’t on my list this week as I was already over, but I hope I get to it anyway!

Great list! I still need to get to The Hate U Give, I’ve heard so many amazing things about it. I definitely recommend Fingersmith, it’s Sarah Waters’ masterpiece in my opinion, and I remember reading some of Vera Brittain’s work in school and enjoying it a lot. Happy reading!

Thanks, Jess! I actually just finished THUG, and it’s as good as everyone says! Hope you enjoy it when you read it too. I’ve absolutely loved everything I’ve read by Sarah Waters, and I’m sure Fingersmith will be no exception. It’s one of those books I’ve been “saving”, since I have a feeling I’ll be sad to finish it. Happy reading to you as well!

Thanks, Laila! I finished THUG today, and absolutely loved it. I can definitely see why it made it onto so many best of lists. Same about Brideshead. I’m determined to finally read it this year!

Mariana is definitely on my TBR. I’m really interested in what you think of Fingersmith when you get to reading it. I’ve always had trouble embracing Henry James. I’m able to with Turn of the Screw, but much of his other work tends to leave me cold. Or it did in college at least. Maybe I should revisit it now that I’m older and (supposedly!) wiser….

I can’t decide whether or not I want to read Mariana for the Persephone Readathon, or save it for another time. I will definitely let you know my thoughts about Fingersmith; I may even try to read it this month. I’m pretty tired of hearing myself talk about wanting to read it! As for Henry James, I’ve only read Turn of the Screw and Daisy Miller, both of which I enjoyed. I don’t think I’ll love a lot of his other work, but The Portrait of a Lady sounds like one I might love. We shall see!

I was thinking about Mariana for the Persephone readathon but I already have The Shuttle, so it makes more sense.

Great range in your list. I’m a fan of Evelyn Waugh’s work also. Thanks for the reminder that I’ve been meaning to read something from Ali Smith for a while now but never found the time — I’ll be trying to remedy that in 2018. Happy new year of reading Jessie!

Thanks, Jo! I really loved Autumn and can’t wait to explore more of Ali Smith’s work. I hope you enjoy her books if you pick them up! Happy 2018 reading to you too!

I loved Fingersmith. I remember it being so good that I want to read it again, just to see if it lives up to my memories.
Quiet sounds intriguing. I don’t really read much non-fiction but I think that will be a fascinating read.
