Currently Reading:

I’ve started The Lido by Libby Page, and am hoping it will be a quick and cheerful read. I’m also listening to the audiobook of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I might not get in too much listening time this week, but will definitely finish it next week while traveling to/from the river. And yes, I am still reading the extraordinary Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain. I haven’t picked this heavy tome up in a while, but am hoping to change that this week.

 

Recently Finished:

I devoured Circe by Madeline Miller in two days. It was even better than I had hoped it would be, and I cannot wait for her next release. I also finished Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher. It was such a lovely, cozy read and one that I’m sure I’ll return to in the future. Both books were five-star reads for me.

 

Reading Next:

I’m starting to plan my Dewey’s Reverse Summer 24 Hour Readathon TBR list. I think The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton will be a fun addition.

  1. Your reading sounds great — I’m looking forward to Circe! I’ve started a pile of choices for the reverse readathon that is a tad (cough) ambitious and will have to be winnowed down. This month, I’m slowly making my way through The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Evicted by Matthew Desmond, but I’ll take a break and read something(s) new for the readathon.

    1. My readathon TBR piles are always overly ambitious too. Hopefully we’ll both be a bit more realistic this time around! I can’t wait to read The Grapes of Wrath, but agree that it’s probably not a great choice for the readathon. Hope you’ll enjoy Circe as much as I did when you get to it!

  2. Rosamunde Pilcher does write a cozy story that makes me settle in and enjoy the journey. I read Coming Home years ago…also, The Shell Seekers and a few others. I have a movie based on The Shell Seekers, starring Angela Lansbury. A movie for a Sunday afternoon.

    1. Thanks, Laurel! Cozy is the perfect description for her writing. I’m really looking forward to reading The Shell Seekers, and plan to watch the adaptation of Coming Home very soon. I’m enjoying The Lido so far, but do have a few nitpicky criticisms.

    1. I hope you’ll love Circe as much as I did, Jen! It’s difficult to decide, but I think I may even slightly prefer it to Song of Achilles. Both were five-star reads for me, and I cannot wait to see what Miller writes next!

  6. I adore The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I haven’t listened to the audiobook, however. Would you recommend it? I wonder how the epistolary element comes across in the audiobook.

    A Testament of Youth is on my TBR, but the rest are new to me.

    I’m reading The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater and listening to Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed on audiobook right now. This is the first I’ve heard of the readathon; I might just participate! Who knows. 😉

    1. I’d highly recommend the audiobook! The epistolary element comes across perfectly IMHO. Each letter is read in the unique voice of the character who “wrote” it. My only criticism is that the actor who voices Dawsey sounds older than I imagined him to be.

      I’ve had Tiny Beautiful Things on my shelf for a while now, and can’t wait to read it when I’m in the right mood. I’m sure it’s lovely as an audiobook. Hope you enjoy the readathon if you decide to take part!

      1. Wonderful! I’ll add it to my audiobook queue, then. 🙂 It’s been about 3 years since I’ve read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society anyway. It’s about time for a re-read. 🙂

        Confession: I’m not as impressed with the audiobook for Tiny Beautiful Things as I hoped to be. Strayed’s not a great audiobook narrator. But, c’est la vie! The stories are uplifting and brilliant, however. She was a marvelous columnist.
