Currently Reading:
I’m thoroughly enjoying The Lost Garden by Helen Humphreys. It’s a lovely little historical fiction novel about a lonely woman who flees London during the Blitz, to oversee a group of Land Girls on a country estate that is also serving as home to a group of Canadian soldiers waiting to be sent to the front. I just wish it were longer than its 212 pages!
Recently Finished:
Speaking of which, I had the same feeling while reading Goodbye, Vitamin by Rachel Khong. I thought this was a compelling, funny, and heartbreaking story of a daughter dealing with the challenges of becoming the caretaker for her father who has Alzheimer’s. It felt like it could have just as easily been a work of nonfiction as opposed to a novel. This is such a strong debut, and I can’t wait to see what Rachel Khong writes next.
Reading Next:
I’m not entirely sure what I’ll pick up next, but part of me wants to read The Corset by Laura Purcell since I didn’t manage to get to it earlier this fall. Meanwhile, there’s also part of me that wants to read something more Christmassy. The charming-sounding 2 A.M. at the Cat’s Pajamas by Marie-Helene Bertino has been on my TBR for a couple of years now. Since it’s set on Christmas Eve, it may be the perfect thing to read to get in a festive mood.
Have you read any of these? What are you reading this week?
Nope I have not read those books. I’m reading murakamis absolutely on music right now.. It’s fab
